Patrik Maturkanič (born in Michalovce in eastern Slovakia in 1974) graduated in 1992 (Technical Secondary School for Foodstuffs in Trebišov) and a year after that in 1993 he joined the Congregation of the Brothers of the Most Holy Sacraments, where he took the monastic name of Brother Prokop. From 1994–1999 he studied philosophy and theology in Olomouc where he successfully completed his doctoral studies.

In September 1999 he was ordained as a priest, and then he engaged in pastoral work in Písek and the surrounding area for three years. From 2002–2004 he completed his postgraduate licensing studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he specialized in New Evangelization. After his return in 2004 he once again settled into church administration in South Bohemia, where he was able to undertake a wide range of pastoral activities in Lomec by Vodňany, in Chelčice and in Bavorov. From 2004–2007 he continued with his postgraduate studies at the St. Cyril and Methodius Theological Faculty in Bratislava, where he obtained a doctorate in theology. In 2007-2008 he lectured on philosophical anthropology at the College of European and Regional Studies in České Budějovice. In 2009 he started to lecture at the College of Social Health in Prague. In addition to this educational activity he has participated in various scientific conferences, published in several domestic and foreign professional theological and philosophical magazines and has regularly lead retreats. In summer 2010 he will return to the South Moravian metropolis where he will become rector of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Brno. He is currently working on his habilitation.

Within the framework of his publishing activity he has recently issued books in České Budějovice, Prague and Nitra with the following titles New Evangelization or Pastoral Care in South Bohemia (2000 copies), The Common Experience of the Holy Mass. The View of a Catholic Priest working in South Bohemia (5000 copies), 5 x Man. Five Perspectives on the Life of Man (2000 copies) and his last monograph The Sacraments: the visible sign of the invisible fact of salvation. The pastoral vision of a South Bohemian priest (5000 copies) and his last monograph The Liturgical year in Practice (1000 copies). Publication met with a great response and the first issues have been sold out on account of the high degree of interest.
